Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017 Coming December 12

08 December 2017

There'll be new and returning holiday themed character skins, for instance, with Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan teasing new Legendary skins for "two of our favourite junkers" (Junkrat and Roadhog, surely) in Blizzard's announcement video. However, the Black Forest map will also be decked up for the holiday season as well. In the past Hanamura and King's Row received the Winter Wonderland treatment and this continues.

Snowball offensive will also make a return.

The starkest change is in the brawl that will be available in Arcade Mode this year. The difference is, each Mei only has one shot in the chamber and a hit is an instant kill.

In the mode, which takes place on the Nepal map, the Mei players will start out hunting Winston while he tries to evade them and track down stacks of meat. Essentially, it boils down to 5 Mei players taking on resident big lad Winston, who also happens to be player controlled.

The person playing as Winston has to run around the map picking up meat to build up his ultimate ability, Primal Rage.

In addition to this Mei's Yeti Hunt.

The holiday brawl from last year, Mei's Snowball Offensive, will be back this year-both on Ecopoint Antarctica and now Black Forest as well.

It sounds like Overwatch is going a bit Evolve, which is an interesting choice. When the Yeti is defeated, the group of Meis wins, whereas if a certain number of Meis die, the Winston player wins. Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions.

"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kind of silly and kind of ridiculous and well, I'm here to tell you it absolutely is".
