Ronda Rousey nearing pro wrestling deal with WWE

07 December 2017

According to two sources speaking with USA Today, Rousey is finalizing details of her move to WWE. "There have been rumours about the UFC star making the transition to the squared circle, and appearances like the one she had in September, when she got into a stare down with Charlotte Flair and challenged her, saying, 'You name the time, you name the place, ' have fanned the flames about a possible move".

This summer, the rumors began to fly that Rousey will be taking her talents to WWE following her MMA career.

The one time dominant champion of the UFC women's bantamweight division is moving on from the sport that made her a household name.

Ronda Rousey's UFC career might, for all intents and purposes, by effectively over thanks to a 48-second rinsing from Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 back in December of 2016, but her career inside a ring is apparently far from over. In a video posted to her Twitter account on December 1st previewing Rousey's new website, footage was shown of Rousey training at the WWE Performance Center.

Whether that clash eventuates at WrestleMania, or if Rousey competes in a different one-on-one matchup remains to be seen.

Ronda Rousey might be looking to win a WWE championship belt. I care about her.

Such certainty makes this an opportunistic time to evaluate what Rousey brought to mixed martial arts during her frenetic and remarkable reign. And she certainly was one of the most mainstream UFC stars. By the time Rousey lost to Nunes she was coming up against an athlete who devoted her entire existence to excelling at MMA, and it showed. She shunned public interviews since losing to Holm with the exception of a couple of Ellen segments. Named five years ago Wednesday as the company's first women's champion even before her first fight, she is credited with being singlehandedly responsible for persuading White to introduce women into the company's roster.

UFC president Dana White said as much recently, confirming that she hasn't officially retired while questioning why she would even consider returning to the octagon.

Which means she leaves just as she arrived - uniquely.
