Cyntoia Brown was arrested and tried for murder as an adult at 16-years-old for killing a 43-year-old man who hired her as a prostitute.
Kim Kardashian West promised to send her attorneys to assist Cyntoia Brown.
This week, the case of a woman named Cyntoia Brown went viral on social media, even though she has already been in jail for more than ten years.
Since she has been behind bars, Cyntoia has gotten a degree from Lipscomb, worked as a consultant for the Juvenile Justice System and helps teach classes. She took his trousers, containing his wallet, and some guns, they said. If, as reports indicate, Kardashian has enlisted the help of her attorneys to try and get Brown released, then it'll be a terrific example of a celebrity using their power to also help the powerless.
The reality TV star turned makeup mogul has assigned her high-powered legal team the task of freeing two women who are imprisoned with lengthy sentences, one of the women being Cyntoia Brown - whose story went extremely viral over the week.
But prosecutors in Nashville say Brown killed Allen in order to steal from him - she left with his trousers, containing his wallet, and some guns. Brown stated while they were in bed, Allan reached over and that she thought he was reaching for a gun, so she shot him with a gun she was carrying before taking money from his wallet and driving away in his truck.
She was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder and aggravated robbery.
Kardashian explained in the post, "The system has failed".
According to People, Kardashian West is seeking action following her tweet about Brown on Tuesday. Her attorney says a court appeal is pending.
That last statement appears to have come to fruition, in addition to legal aid to Alice Johnson, the 62-year-old grandmother now serving 21 years behind bars for a first-time, non-violent drug charge.
'Kim asked me several weeks ago how she could help Alice Johnson in her fight for justice, ' said Kim's lawyer Shawn Holley.
Rihanna previously wrote on Instagram: "We somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? cause". Brown who has been in custody for a few years came into the news again after Fox 17 Nashville published a report on her life on October 16.
Now a petition on the website MoveOn has been started in an attempt to secure Brown's release from prison, with the petition so far receiving over 337,000 signatures. Bone said she attributed the attention and inspiration to the fact that a segment on Brown aired by a Nashville television station, Fox 17 News, earlier in the week. However, Brown's conviction does carry the possibility of parole - when Brown is 69 years old.
In 2011, Brown was the subject of the PBS documentary "Me Facing Life: Cyntoia's Story".
