"Add Trump Jr.to the list of people tied to Trump campaign in private communications with Wikileaks and Guddifer 2.0, along with Roger Stone, Cambridge Analytica, and potentially others", he concluded. They show that, in addition to giving Trump Jr. a link to stolen emails from the Hillary Clinton campaign, WikiLeaks asked him to investigate an anti-Trump PAC, and encouraged Trump to contest the election results if he lost.
The Atlantic found the organization was sending direct messages to Trump Jr.'s Twitter account for 10 months, up until July 2017. Assange had previously spoken about his role in the released emails, although many were skeptical at the time. Twelve hours after recieving the message, Trump responded, "Off the record I don't know who that is, but I'll ask around".
Meanwhile, WikiLeaks continued to DM him, at one point asking him to leak them Trump Sr.'s tax returns to help the group "improve the perception of our impartiality", suggesting that Trump not concede the election if he loses, and after the election making the unusual suggestion that the he should "suggest that Australia appoint Assange ambassador" to the US.
In one of the messages, sent at 6:35 p.m. on the day of the election, Wikileaks wrote, "Hi Don if your father "loses" we think it is much more interesting if he DOES NOT conceed [sic] and spends time CHALLENGING the media and other types of rigging that occurred-as he has implied that he might do".
On October 12, 2016, WikiLeaks wrote to Trump Jr.to "strongly suggest" that Trump tweet out the link wlsearch.tk, claiming the site would help people search through the hacked documents. "Hey Donald, great to see you and your dad talking about our publications", WikiLeaks wrote.
"The discussion can be transformative as it exposes media corruption, primary corruption, PAC corruption, etc.", the message added.
November 9, 2016: Right after midnight, when it became clear that Trump would win the presidency, WikiLeaks wrote to Trump Jr., saying, "Wow.".
Trump Jr. may not have responded to that message. Like this one in December to make Assange the Australian ambassador to the United States.
In return for supplying Trump Jr. with information, Wikileaks made a series of bold, and increasingly weird requests. "In relation to Mr. Assange: Obama/Clinton placed pressure on Sweden, UK and Australia (his home country) to illicitly go after Mr. Assange". However, there's no indication that the group answered this question from Trump Jr. or gave him advance notice.
Between this news and the remaining questions about Trump Jr's meeting past year with a Kremlin lawyer, there are a lot of Twitter users who aren't very impressed with the president's son right now. WikiLeaks attempted to convince Trump Jr.to turn his emails with publicist Rob Goldstone about the meeting over to WikiLeaks. However, he argued the Atlantic had presented the messages in an unfairly damaging light.
"Us publishing not only deprives them of this ability but is beautifully confounding", WikiLeaks said.
