It all started with former cricketers Venkata Sai Laxman, Ajit Agarkar and Akash Chopra opposing the continuance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Twenty20 format after his glaring "failure to pushing things" in the second of the three-match T20 series aginst New Zealand at Rajkot, resulting in India losing by 40 runs. But today (Saturday) was a classical example because when Virat Kohli was batting, Dhoni had to give strike to Kohli.
Named after the two-time world cup winning captain the MS Dhoni Cricket Academy (MSDCA) is a joint venture of Dubai-based Pacific Sports Club and Aarka Sports Club which has been in operation for a couple of months at the Springdales School in Al Quoz. Following Dhoni's 37-ball 49, Laxman, in a post-match television show, had suggested that Dhoni should give chance to youngsters in the T20 format as they would get an opportunity to blossom and get confidence by playing worldwide cricket.
"In T20s, MS Dhoni's role is at No 4".
For a while now, there has been lots of criticism surrounding MS Dhoni's position in the T20I side.
Shastri too echoed Kohli's sentiments by saying, some "jealous" people wished to see the end of Dhoni's global career.
Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri feels that senior pro M.S. Dhoni is an "ultimate team man", and says some "jealous" people want him to have a "couple of bad days" as they are "waiting to see" his worldwide career come to an end. "He is definitely an integral part of ODI cricket", Laxman said in a post-match show. I have never thought about the results. One of them thought that he has no place in the team as a batsman, now that he is not the captain and another felt by pulling out of the shortest format he could prolong his One-Day career. The cricketer has always wanted to contribute to the making of future players. But just as a batsman, will India miss him, I don't think so.
"Sachin was 38 when we won the World Cup and nobody was saying anything then", he said before adding "Even if he is axed from the team, whom will they get?" "I don't understand why people are pointing him out".
"I have always believed that process is more important than results".
"Looks like there are a lot of jealous people around, who just want Dhoni to have a couple of bad days".
"I think he is doing absolutely fine". There are a few people who are waiting to see the end of M. S. Dhoni. "I am delighted to be a part of the club and will contribute in any means possible to make it a success".
Kohli said in clear words that he and Dhoni know what's happening out in the middle and they understand what's best for each and every player. "He was a great leader and now an ultimate team man".
