2 soldiers martyred in attack on Pak-Afghan border checkpost: ISPR

13 November 2017

Pakistan says its troops have killed at least eight "terrorists" and wounded many others who tried to attack a post near the Afghan border.

Pakistan Army's Captain Junaid Hafeez and Sepoy Raham lost their lives in the attack, the ISPR statement added.

"Terrorists from Afghanistan side attempted attack on Pakistani posts along Pak-Afghan border in Bajaur Agency".

While talking about the militant hideouts in the war-torn country, Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor said, "It now requires elimination of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan and effective Afghan border security".

Militants have crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan and killed a Pakistani army officer and a soldier, the Pakistani military said on Monday.

Independent verification was not possible as the area is largely closed off to reporters. Military had reported then that the young officer was freshly positioned in Rajgal.

According to ISPR, the militants launched attack from border areas of Afghanistan.

On October 3, another soldier had embraced martyrdom after terrorists fired from across the Afghan border on a border post.

The cross-border attack on the check-post in September came days after Operation Khyber IV concluded successfully.

Pakistan has started fencing its long and porous border with Afghanistan to check the movement of Taliban terrorists from Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, which does not recognise the border, has lately been angry over a Pakistani plan to build a fence along most of it.
