Ford India launches all new 2018 EcoSport; here's everything to know

The diesel version of the new EcoSport is carried over from the pre-facelift SUV and still displaces 1.5-litres.

The SUV also available with the 1.5-litre diesel which remains untouched along with its five-speed manual gearbox.

Ford India today launched its new 2017 Ford EcoSport in the country at a starting price of Rs 7.31 lakh for the petrol manual variant.

According to the company there are 1600 new changes in the comparison to the outgoing EcoSport.

The design is both bold and functional: Ford's design and engineering team spent more than a million hours studying computer fluid dynamics, and more than 200 hours in a wind tunnel refining the aerodynamics of the new EcoSport. According to the company the vehicle went out of stock within a few hours of its launch.

A few other highlights of the Ford Ecosport facelift include the AC which is said to bring down the cabin temperature from 50 degrees to 25 degrees in 15 minutes, a floating eight inch touch screen infotainment system with Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice command; an all new 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine and an all new six speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine is naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol unit. Customers choose from a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. A new, sportier steering wheel features first in segment paddle shifters.

Talking about its specifications, it will be powered by 1.5 litre petrol and 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine. The delivering fuel economy of petrol EcoSport is 17KM per liter and priced between Rs7.31 lakh and Rs10.99 lakh. The 1.5-litre TDCI diesel motor churns out 99 BHP of power and 205 Nm of torque.

The base trim Ambiente variant itself comes with a bunch of new features like a new black glossy grille, black foglamp bezels, rocker and bumper cladding, dual reversing lamp, body colour bumper, black door handle and ORVMs. The seats are also better cushioned now and get a new simpler folding mechanism for the rear bench.

In terms of safety, the new 2017 EcoSport gets two airbags and ABS with EBD as standard across all variants.

On the safety front, all models get ABS and airbags, with the top-end models sporting six airbags, traction control and hill-assist as well.

The new EcoSport's total length is 3,998 mm and comes with a width of 1,765 mm and a height of 1,647 mm (without roof rails). Fold-flat rear seats maximise rear cargo space for urban shopping sprees.
