Ryan Murphy's 'Pose' To Feature Five Transgender Actors

26 October 2017

While details about the new project have been scarce so far, it's now been announced that the show's cast will include five trans actors in starring roles, the highest of any scripted TV series in history.

Pose, set in the 1980s, focuses on different parts of life in NY at the time, from the rise of Trump-like moguls to the downtown party scene and the ball culture.

It took a six-month nationwide search to find the cast. FX has confirmed that additional casting announcements will be made shortly, ahead of the start of filming on the Pose pilot next month in NY.

Joining them in Pose are Ryan Jamaal Swain, Tony victor Billy Porter, and Dyllon Burnside.

Producer Ryan Murphy, victor of Best Mini-Series or Movie for “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story”, poses in the press room during the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 18, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

Trans activist Silas Howard will serve as co-executive producer on the show.

Canals has been writing scripts for the series with Our Lady J (Transparent) as well as with transgender rights activist and New York Times best-selling author Janet Mock.

Falchuk and Murphy have previously worked together on the likes of Nip/Tuck and American Horror Story. Ball scene experts Michael Roberson and Twiggy Pucci Garçon are serving as consultants to the series alongside Hector Xtravaganza, Skylar King, and Sol Williams.

Transgender actress MJ Rodriguez will star on Ryan Murphy's series "Pose".

Polanco has choreographed previously for legends such as Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

"We are thrilled that "Pose" pushes the narrative forward by centering on the unique and under-told experiences of trans women and gay people of color", series co-creator Steven Canals said. "Ryan has assembled a strong team of storytellers and innovators to collaborate on telling this important narrative". Sahar is repped by Pantheon and CW Management.
