Seahawks Trick Play Ends With Controversial Touchdown Similar to Fail Mary

23 October 2017

The Seattle Seahawks took a 17-7 lead with 9:49 in the fourth quarter Sunday, when Russell Wilson threw a 62-yard flea-flicker touchdown to receiver Paul Richardson - on a ball that was caught in the end zone by Giants safety Landon Collins. They have beaten the Giants three times - 36-25 in 2011 and 23-0 in 2013 - and knocked off the Jets previous year 27-17. He put the game away with a 38-yard TD throw to Paul Richardson on a play that had to be reviewed because of simultaneous possession and he closed out the scoring with a 1-yard toss to Jimmy Graham with 2:14 to go. The defense played well but wore down at the end. Seattle entered the game 31st in the National Football League in red zone efficiency, and this was again a problem.

On a first down from the NY 38-yard line, Seattle pulled out a trick play.

The Seahawks had the ball for almost nine minutes on their second possession of the day, they saw their third end with a fumble on the first play and a punt on No. 4 came just before frustration boiled over on the sideline. We have to take accountability for that, so I got a little passionate about it. They made it to the Giants' 35-yard line.

The Seahawks are now 5-0 all time at MetLife Stadium, by a combined score of 153-57.

Minutes later, Baldwin caught a touchdown and all seemed well.

Fantasy fallout: Thomas Rawls started at running back, but he and Eddie Lacy again finished with a similar workload. It was ruled a touchdown and the review didn't change it.

RUSHING-Seattle, Rawls 11-36, Lacy 11-34, Lockett 3-15, Wilson 2-10, McKissic 3-10, Davis 1-(minus 1).

CBS cameras caught wide receiver Doug Baldwin shoving offensive line coach Tom Cable when Cable stepped in front of a heated Baldwin while Baldwin was yelling on the sideline. It didn't appear as though Baldwin was upset with Cable but that he was saying something to Wilson and/or Carroll. After the game, Baldwin said he apologized to Cable and took full responsibility for the incident.
