Porsche 718 Cayman & Boxster GTS now on sale in Australia

18 October 2017

Revealed here in a series of official photographs ahead of a planned public debut at the Los Angeles auto show in late November, the roadster and coupe benefit from engine upgrades boosting output to 365 hp.

The previous Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS launched in 2014, and both ran the same naturally aspirated 3.5L flat 6-cyl. but with respective outputs of 325 hp and 335 hp.

Compared to the 718 S models, the GTS sports 15 more horsepower thanks to a newly-developed intake duct and an optimized turbocharged for the 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine.

The maximum torque of 317lb ft is available from 1,900 to 5,000rpm.

Porsche Australia says the new 718 GTS models are available to order now, with deliveries scheduled to commence in March, 2018. Power is routed to the rear wheels through either the standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

With the PDK and Sport Chrono Package, the 718 GTS models reach 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and have a top speed of 180 miles per hour.

The last generation Boxster and Cayman marked the first time Porsche offered its performance-oriented "GTS" trim on any of its mid-engine road cars. These new GTS models are now the top end of the baby Porsche range, and they're on sale now. Both Boxster and Cayman derivatives receive a Sport Design front bumper, black tinted lights front and rear, a black rear apron, black logos and black tailpipes for the standard-fit sports exhaust. The GTS is outfitted with some satin black wheels and other black exterior trim pieces to send the subtle message that this auto is just a bit more serious than its siblings.

Inside, there are Alcantara suede-effect sections on the seats, which are electrically adjustable, along with Alcantara on the steering wheel rim, centre console and armrests.

The local specification and pricing for the 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS models is now being finalised and will be announced shortly, with the first vehicles set to arrive in New Zealand dealerships around March 2018.
