India Qualifies for 2019 Asian Cup After Win Against Macau

12 October 2017

Football fans across the globe now have the chance to propose their suggestion for the official slogan for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, with the victor standing a chance to win an all-expenses paid* trip and exclusive access to the opening match at the iconic Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The Indians have been in impressive form, winning all the four group matches they have played so far to ensure qualification in style.

"We achieved our goal tonight to qualify for Asian Cup".

India competed in the tournament for the first time in 1964, when they finished runners-up.

This qualification is going to transform Indian football in every possible way as they will be now considered among the elite football nations of the continent.

Rowllin Borges opened the scoring for India with a fine right-footed volley in the 28th minute.

India had the benefit of hosting one of the four qualifying tournaments for this edition of the Asian Cup, due to be hosted by Singapore for the first time in December, in Kolkata in October. Skipper Sunil Chhetri had a silent outing in the game up till the 60th minute when he tapped in a pass from Balwant Singh to give the lead to India.

Where do I watch the India vs Macau clash live?

India are the top placed side in Group A with nine points from three matches.

Macau lost both of its first leg matches against Kyrgyzstan (0-1) and Myanmar (0-4) and is due to play the second legs on November 14 and March 27, 2018, respectively.

"In the 2011 edition, we faced Bahrain, Australia and South Korea".

Nicholas Mario de Almeida Torrao scored the lone goal for the visitors in the 37th minute. It would be a courageous punt to think of any result other than an Indian win, especially keeping India's 2-0 win in Macau on September 5 in mind.

However, all that changed once Balwant Singh came onto the pitch at the half-time for Jackichand Singh and that meant Sunil Chhetri reverted to the left wing with Halicharan Narzary coming to the right.

The goal was set up by Chan Chun, who found space on the right and sent in a attractive cross. Then Jeje, from near the halfway line, found Balwant. The substitute raced forward before squaring the ball into the box for Chhetri to knock it in. We have to stay ready and will have to be cautious of not being hit on the counter.

With rain making it hard for the players, India managed to get two early chances in the second and fourth minutes.

India still have two games to go - away to the Kyrgyz Republic and another one at Kanteerava against Myanmar.

This will be India's fourth appearance in the Asian Cup finals.

"I was there when we missed out in 2015 and that still hurts me".

"We have to play more games now to get prepared".

Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in 2019 and India have 2 long years at their bay to prepare for the elite competition which will feature the best of Asian sides.

Chetri lauded his teammates for their performance. It's just the starting of the hard work.
