The senators have now launched an investigation into allegations of corruption leveled against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, by Senator Isah Misau.
Misau said his feud with the IGP started when he spoke to Daily Trust in the office of Senator Bashir Baba Kaka Garbai on the alleged bribe-for-special promotion in the police force. One of them is Amina and one of them is DSP Esther which the IG on 15th of last month got married to.
"Under police act and regulation you can not marry as serving woman police unless the woman retires", Mr Misau said on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.
The police claimed: "Misau dubiously absconded and deserted the police on September 24, 2010, when he was redeployed to Niger State Command, consequent upon which he was queried, in line with the Public Service Rules".
The police image maker added that Misau deserted the Force and that he would soon be declared wanted so that he would be made to respond to a disciplinary committee set up to investigate him.
"The female officer was already four months pregnant".
Misau said this on the floor of the senate on Wednesday while drawing the attention of the lawmakers to the disagreement he is having with Idris.
"As a former Police officer, I can say authoritatively that it is wrong for an officer to have a relationship with female Police officer because of the nature of that work".
"I am concerned about what is happening in the police in terms of bribery and there is a need for something urgent to be done to salvage the image of the institution".
In his response, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said the issue raised can not be swept under the carpet and vowed to set up Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the allegations against the Inspector General of Police.
Misau had during a plenary session of the Senate reintroduced his allegation of corruption and misconduct against the IGP.
He added another dimension to his claims when he told his colleagues that the police boss hurriedly married an officer after he put in the family way.
"We have excellent police officers who are now demoralised because promotion is no longer based on merit and years of service".
"Mr. President, there is illegal diversion of funds by the IGP". Under the 2016 appropriation act, there is the provision where the IGP is supposed to purchase armoured carriers.
Meanwhile, Misau had recently accused the IGP of siphoning N10 billion funds monthly.
