SFPD Officer's Wife Missing After Las Vegas Shooting

03 October 2017

The brother of a San Francisco officer whose wife was killed in the Las Vegas shooting spoke during a press conference Tuesday saying, "Stacee was a charismatic person".

Stacee is also survived by her 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.

San Francisco police did not receive an update on Officer Etcheber or his wife's status by Monday afternoon.

When the shooting broke out at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, Etcheber thought his wife and the two people he was with were safe. After midnight Monday, Hayes posted that "im ok", but that she couldn't find Stacee. We are devastated and are struggling to accept such a tremendous loss. Please pray for our family during this hard time.

Etchebeber's brother Al Etcheber told the Mercury News that his brother and Stacee rented a friend's Las Vegas timeshare. When the shooting began, the Etchebers and their two friends ducked behind security partitions.

Vinnie urged Stacee, 50, and their two friends to run while he stayed behind and assisted the wounded.

Etcheber drove injured people to a nearby hospital on the back of the pickup truck.

Now, the family is trying to spread the word in hopes that somebody who has information about Stacee will contact them.

To make matters more complicated, Stacee had left her phone behind in the hotel before the festival and had given her identification to her husband for safekeeping during the concert.

Vinnie had been searching local hospitals overnight before being relegated to the Las Vegas police command center to wait for word.

"They are a very community-oriented couple", Al Etcheber said.

By Tuesday morning, he shared the heartbreaking news.

Stacee Etcheber of Novato was attending the festival with her husband, Officer Vinnie Etcheber, when a gunman fired into the crowd from a hotel room at the neighboring Mandalay Bay resort late Sunday night. "Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Etcheber family and our thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost a loved one during this tragic attack".
