Buhari Marks Independence Day With Troops in Maiduguri

02 October 2017

Launched in November 2015, President Buhari said N43.92bn has been released through the Central Bank of Nigeria and 13 participating institutions with 200,000 smallholder farmers from 29 states benefitting. He immediately proceeded to Maimalari Cantonment where he inspected the Quarter Guard mounted in his honour by the Theatre Command, Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

Muhammed said the speech was "not realistic", adding that some of the claims made by Buhari with regards to his policies were not true.

"The Buhari I know is a truthful man".

"The country must first be secured".

I assure you that if Nigeria doesn't exist, the first to be insecure are the law enforcement agencies, because no matter how many parts Nigeria will be divided into, nobody will take an old colonel or general to preside over his locality, not to talk of him getting pension or gratuity.

Pastor Bakare noted that though the National Assembly is the only avenue for making constitutional changes required to restructure the country possible, nevertheless, many Nigerians are pessimistic that the members can initiate the task of restructuring of the country due to the unenviable reputation of the lawmakers.

Pastor Bakare therefore prayed that the President will find the "courage and political will to do what is right at this momentous period in the history of our nation". He said, "You know that there is Operation Python Dance in the South-East and IPOB members are having problems with the soldiers".

On arrival at the airport, the President was received by the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Defence Staff, General AG Olonisakin, Service Chiefs and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Mallam Lawal Usman Daura and other top government officials. That election also provided opportunity for Nigerians to press the reset buttons in the governance of our country.

Buhari, who fought in the 1967-70 Biafran war, said those seeking to carve up the country had no idea of the havoc they could potentially wreak.

"Over two years ago when the current leadership of the arm forces were appointed by Mr President, we were facing the worst time in our effort to contain one of the greatest setback to our national security". The entire nation thanks our gallant Armed Forces for their heroic work rolling back the frontiers of Boko Haram's terrorism.

"This noble achievement under President Muhammadu Buhari has been widely acknowledged and celebrated by Nigerians and the global communities".

The president, aided by topmost dignitaries, and the Shehu of Borno, cut the 57th anniversary cake.
