USA officials working in Russian Federation deprived of special parking lots

USA media reports suggested earlier in the day that a local branch of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) in one of San Francisco's districts had sent a notification to the employees of the Russian consulate about a violation related to the "burning of garbage".

As well as canceling parking privileges, Russian media has reported that US diplomatic missions could be hit with staff reductions and fewer approved diplomatic entry points. "We will raise the issue with the Russian Foreign Ministry", a US State Department representative told RIA Novosti. The local fire department was turned away, but local air quality officials levied a fine against the Russians for burning "garbage", though it is unclear if that was a statement on the quality of Russia's secret documents.

Russian officials turned the ongoing U.S. -Russia dispute into a street fight this week by taking away U.S. staff parking outside of the our consulates in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg and the U.S. embassy in Moscow, according to the Associated Press. Cars have been apparently parking for years in a pedestrian area, and it has now been marked as a pedestrian crossing.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the actions of San Francisco authorities, who have fined the staff of the Russian Consulate General in the city, just another "anti-Russian performance". He conveniently left out the reason the Obama administration started this: Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that the Kremlin was also considering demanding that the US diplomatic mission reduce its staff by an additional 155 employees.

Moscow has repeatedly urged the USA to reverse the decision, but eventually went for retaliation, ordering Washington to cut its diplomatic personnel in Russia by 755, to match the numbers of the Russian diplomats in the US.

"If the U.S. makes parity a criterion, we will bring those conditions in full accordance with what is called parity", Lavrov said, noting that Russia had actually included the Russian mission to the United Nations in the numbers of its diplomatic corps.
