Jason George Leaving 'Grey's Anatomy' for Untitled Firehouse Spinoff

The Seattle-based world of Grey's Anatomy is moving into the realm of fire-fighting later this season, and one familiar face at Grey Sloan Memorial is leading the charge. Ben's storyline this season will set up his transition to the new spinoff series, which centers on a tight-knit group of Seattle firefighters. Actor Jason George, who joined the Grey's Anatomy cast back in Season 6 before becoming a series regular in Season 12, is set to join the cast of ABC's Grey's Anatomy spinoff series as a series regular on the network's firehouse drama. Ben Warren - the eventual husband to original series star Chandra Wilson's Miranda Bailey.

Ben Warren on "Grey's Anatomy", is parting ways with the beloved drama to join an upcoming "Grey's" spinoff series.

At the time the spinoff was announced, ABC originally envisioned it with an entirely new cast - though George remained a likely candidate given Ben's actions in the season-13 finale.

George will be joining Jaina Lee Ortiz, who is rumored to be the show's lead female role.

"Grey's Anatomy" showrunner Stacy McKee will spearhead the spinoff.

The actor is set to join ABC's upcoming firefighter-focused Grey's Anatomy spinoff as a series regular. Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will executive produce with McKee.

Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8/7c on ABC.
