Angelina Jolie says her children laugh at her on the red carpet

'I have had my ups and downs. "We all have our hard times, but as a mother you also have a responsibility first and foremost towards the kids", she explained.

Speaking about how the movie came about, Jolie said she and Loung penned the script years ago and they finally chose to make the movie keeping in mind Maddox's role in the movie.

The former couple's children, Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, Vivienne and Knox, 9, have been at the center of a custody battle between the two, stemming from an alleged incident of child abuse on a private jet, involving Pitt.

She said bringing her six children - three of whom were adopted from orphanages in Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam - to work on movies and humanitarian projects around the world has been a key part of their education.

'Everything will be around the children, ' the Salt actress said.

"He was wonderful, he actually really impressed me, he had to earn it", the 42-year-old told ExtraTV while promoting the film at the event. Everything was just stopped.

"They really help me so much".

Angelina Jolie revealed that she is a "little bit stronger" following her recent split from Brad Pitt.

"I think they're itching to get out in the world again", she says. I think it would be good to get out there and play together, ' the LA native said.

Much has changed over the a year ago in Angelina Jolie's life, but one thing has remained constant - her dedication to her children. "Nobody in my life has ever stood by me more".

She also talked her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died of cancer 10 years ago.

That said, she notes that everyone is ready to come out of "lockdown", and confirms she is going to go back to acting (including starring in "Maleficent 2"). "They love her, she is family", she said.

Her Netflix production is an adaptation of Cambodian-born author and activist Ung's memoir from 2000. The brothers actually worked behind-the-scenes on the new film alongside their mum.
