Futurama will live again in the form of a single podcast episode

10 September 2017

But there's a major catch: it's only for one episode... in audio format. As the crew journeys there, they cross paths with Klaxxon, a "nefarious life form composed entirely of soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts". Fry and his companions must work hard to save Earth from Klaxxon's destructive, lethal soundwaves. Those tuning in should also keep an ear out for Borax Kid, Calculon, and "All My Circuits". Oh, and if you're playing the game you'll be able to unlock clips from the new episode, which debuts on the Nerdist Podcast on September 14th. There's also reports of even more surprises in store for listeners, too. Now available to download on the App Store, Google Play or Amazon, you can see a preview of the game (and a countdown to the new episode) at FuturamaNow.

Though Futurama was canceled in 2013, it lives on in the gaming app Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow and occasional one-off get-togethers.

Created by Groening, David X. Cohen and the animated series' writers, the 42-minute audio adventure feature the original cast and is tied into the mobile game Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, which has already been treating players to original content from the podcast and in-game exclusives, like a mission to "Junkleon 7", the deleted file planet. "Hooray for infinite loops!" For more details, check out the countdown page at FuturamaNow.com!

Futurama aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, and was revived in 2007 as four direct-to-video films that later appeared on Comedy Central as 16 new, half-hour episodes. Fans were treated to an appearance by several of the characters on a 2014 crossover episode of Groening's The Simpsons.

Futurama's voice cast includes Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, and Frank Welker.
