Rudolph leads No. 11 Oklahoma State to rout of South Alabama

09 September 2017

South Alabama quarterback Cole Garvin injured his right ankle on the opening series against No. 11 Oklahoma State.

"There's still a lot of stuff Weeden's done that I haven't", Rudolph said after helping Oklahoma State improve to 2-0.

"They also have the No. 1 quarterback in the country".

The 11th-ranked Cowboys (1-0) visit the Sun Belt Conference's Jaguars (0-1) on Friday night in Mobile, Alabama, as four-touchdown favorites determined not to take anything for granted.

Oklahoma State led 20-0 at intermission after outgaining the Jaguars 322-68 in total yards. "It's like every other game, and if you look at the scores from last week, it's all about preparation", said OSU coach Mike Gundy said Monday.

Rudolph tossed 303 yards and three touchdowns in the team's opener against Tulsa last weekend, establishing himself in the Heisman race for the 2017 year.

The Cowboys' offense rolled along last week as usual in their 59-24 win over Tulsa. The Cowboys offense might be too overwhelming, and Friday's contest could serve as a nice warmup before Oklahoma State travels to Pittsburgh in week three.

As Ole Miss did last week, Oklahoma State turned this one into a laugher in the third quarter.

Touchdowns followed, with Rudolph connecting on scoring passes of 66 yards to Washington and 4 yards to Ateman, boosting the lead to 17-0.

A 15-yard throw to Lacy in the final two minutes of the first half did the trick.

On the next drive, Rudolph and company marched on down to the end zone again, a seven play, 73 yard drive, punched in by a 4 yd touchdown pass to Marcell Ateman.

NOTES: South Alabama senior WR Sa'Mory Collier was the only player on the Jaguars roster from Oklahoma.

That same line created the two takeaways by the Cowboys as Oklahoma State stretched its lead in the second half. The Cowboys do not have a player from the state of Alabama.

South Alabama lost their week 1 contest to MS 47-27 in a game that was well decided before the beginning of the fourth quarter. They lost Calvin Bundage, Edison-McGruder's replacement, on the first play of the second half when he was penalized and ejected for targeting.
