Onam images 2017: Malayalis celebrate this as festival of Rice Harvest

Onam is being celebrated here with traditional fervour.

People of Hyderabad celebrated Onam with much delight and the traditional sumptuous feast where all the members of the family take part. He said that, this year, they had made a decision to visit Mysuru where they will be visiting Zoo, Mysore Palace today and KRS, Ranganathittu and other tourist spots tomorrow before heading back to Kerala. Malayalis celebrate the festival with theatre, music, dance, spectacular boat races, and, of course, great food. Impressed by his piety, Vamana granted him a boon that he would be able to visit his people once a year, which is now marked as Onam. From delightful Pookolams (bloom beautifications) to Onam Sadhya to Vallam Kali, everything about Onam is stunningly glory. Onam is an annual celebration of the homecoming of King Mahabali, who is believed to come from the nether world to check on his citizens.

Onam is a well established Hindu celebration of Kerala celebrated amid the season of rice reap. On the final day of Onam, Thiruonam, a grand feast called Onasadya is prepared. The celebration remembers the presence of Vamana, fifth avatara of Vishnu and the consequent home happening to the wonderful King Mahabali. The All India Malayalees Association also greeted the Keralites on the occasion of Onam festival. Here, students participate in a tug of war competition during Onam celebrations at a school in Kozhikode. Many celebrities wished Kerala on the occasion of Onam on Twitter.
