Flights to Houston canceled at Gulfport-Biloxi International

29 August 2017

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport in Houston remain closed as heavy rain and flooding persist.

The closures of Houston Intercontinental Airport and Houston Hobby Airport have slowed emplanements at the Harlingen airport to a single daily flight to and from Austin.

Delta, United, and Southwest airlines have cancelled all flights in and out of Panama City to Houston.

According to Flight Tracker Flight Aware, more than 1,800 flights were canceled across the United States today.

Wren said both Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have ratcheted back their schedules since Friday when Hurricane Harvey started to hit the region in earnest.

The carrier also said that "Given the uncertainty caused by the bad weather, if you are due to travel to or from Houston, Austin or New Orleans with British Airways up to and including Thursday August 31, even if your flight is still shown as operating, you can delay your travel up to and including Wednesday September 13".

The only planes allowed to arrive and depart are for first responder support and some emergency flights to get people out of the airport.

The skies over Valley International Airport have been pretty quiet lately. Southwest is also adding another flight to Burbank.

The FAA's air traffic report says thunderstorms and other conditions on Monday may also slow flight traffic in Chicago (MDW, ORD), Dallas (DAL, DFW), Denver (DEN), Detroit (DTW), southeast Florida (FLL, MIA), the NY area (EWR, JFK, LGA) and Phoenix (PHX). Corpus Christi International Airport reopened, several days after Hurricane Harvey made landfall just north of the city.
